Ghana is a West African country on the Gulf of Guinea. Happy festivals, busy markets, rhythmic music and hospitable and cheerful people characterise the country. Ghana is considered one of the safest countries in Africa.
Ghana’s landscapes change quickly: scrub, grassland, savannah, and rainforest. Much is still largely unexplored, especially in tropical forests. There are ancient giant trees and exotic plants.
Ghana exports coffee, tea, rubber, sugar cane and cocoa to the West. The country is the world’s second-largest cocoa producer after Ivory Coast. The country is the world’s second-largest cocoa producer after Ivory Coast. Processed products are imported back: chocolate, soap, and car tires, for example. As a result, Ghana, like many other African countries, can develop poorly economically.
Ghana is considered one of the few functioning democracies in Africa and is, therefore, a role model for the entire continent. Politically, the country is considered stable, and the economy is also relatively broad-based. Nevertheless, Ghana is one of the poorest countries in the world. Like every developing country, it struggles with debt, little capital, falling world market prices and high unemployment.
Our focus is to improve the homes of orphans and ensure their education. This starts with organizing the basics like school supplies/inventory and teacher salaries. Up to the construction of classrooms, toilets, library, kitchen and complete school buildings. Other concerns are health and water supply.
It is important to us to spend time with the kids and make them happy. We organise afternoon games with the kids, where they learn new games as a team.
Every cent donated is used for our projects, and we are free of administration, marketing and wage costs.
We are Silja and Joy – both full-time employees in the health and catering industry. In October 2017, we packed our backpacks and travelled the world for a year. We spent two months in Ghana and fell in love with the country and the people.
On our journey, we were confronted with poverty and the unfair distribution of goods/education in many situations. We had a heartfelt desire to contribute to a change. With a lot of love, time, donations and external financial support, we make it possible to change something!
