The school at Savior Children Home has grown steadily over the past years – today, it serves more than 600 children. But space had become a serious issue But space had become a serious issue. Some classrooms held over 50 students, making teaching and learning increasingly difficult. For Patrick and the teaching staff, it was clear: a new school building with more classrooms was urgently needed.
The plan was to construct a two-storey building with a total of six classrooms: two large rooms on the ground floor for older students, and four smaller classrooms upstairs for the youngest children.
The construction became a true community effort. As with previous projects, we joined Patrick at the market to buy the necessary timber. Before building could begin, an old, partially unusable building had to be torn down – its leaky roof had made it impossible to use during rainy seasons. The demolition was emotional, as many memories were tied to it, but everyone joined in: children, teachers, and helpers from the community.
The new building rose quickly, and soon it stood proudly on the school grounds. In the end, it was painted in bright, cheerful colors – and when the children were finally allowed to step inside their new classrooms, they were overjoyed. Their glowing faces are something we will never forget.
