Freedom Orphanage

About Freedom Orphanage

We came across the Freedom Orphanage through an appeal on social media. A friend gave us William as a contact. William has supported Freedom for several years. He has assisted in rescue operations freeing children enslaved to work on fishing boats. He also brought some of the children to Freedom Orphanage.

The Orphanage is very rural. It has a large piece of land on which some plant food is used to care for the children. About 40 children are living in the orphanage. They also accommodate widowed women who cannot care for themselves and their children. John and his daughter Miriam run Freedom. His wife sadly passed away as a result of cancer in 2021.

Freedom is lacking in several areas. A significant problem has to do with the water supply. They also lack toilets and a kitchen. Except for the dormitories, every other thing is very makeshift. They had started building a school when we were there for the first time in 2020. However, they lacked the money to continue with the building.
